Abba's Child

I have just finished reading Brennan Manning's wonderful book - Abba's Child.

It was so good I only allowed myself one chapter a day - as I wanted to pour over each word and let it sink into my heart.

Amazing to focus again on the love of the Father for us.

"Gods love for you and His choose of you constitute your worth. Accept that, and let it become the most important thing in your life."

If you make a Christmas list add this book to the top!

Chicken Licken

As the child's story goes a bird walking in the woods gets suddenly hit on the head (by an acorn) and panics to rush to the King fearing the sky has fallen. Many others are drawn into the frenzy which results in a terrible outcome.

I have lived in fear for the past year that when people came to visit my house they could suffer a head injury from the falling ceiling due to the growing crack in the plaster.

Yesterday and today 2 men have been round and taken the lounge ceiling down, filling the house with dust but hopefully making the place safe.

Sadly the coving proved un-save able (if there is such a word?) so that has been removed as well.

My kids world has collapsed as the modem for the Internet was unplugged for almost 36 hours!

I am now waiting for a quote to have the work finished and am panicing that all will not be completed by the 1st December - possibly ruining my start to Christmas:(

I am totally aware that many people have much worse situations to endure than I do.

How do you keep a proper perspective when all seems to be falling around you?

Brene Brown: The power of vulnerability

I heard this lady at GLS recently and it was brilliant.
I admit this is the 1st ever TED that I have watched.
I want to become more vulnerable….

London to Brighton

Now that my son Josh has a road bike we have decided it would be good to have a ride planned.

Saturday 16th November - whatever the weather (he writes from the comfort of his office) we plan to cycle from London to Brighton.

Several other folk have said that they hope to join us - meeting at Ealing Town Hall 9:30 ready for 10am departure. Fish & Chips by the beach before catching the train home:)

Looking forward to a fun occasion with others, opportunity to relax and get to know folk better, to do some exercise and tackle Ditchling Beacon!

What adventure do you have planned?

Community Group

I have been involved in different named small groups as part of church life for years and years. Various titles have been given - life group, cell group, home group, community group....

We gather together one night a week and then also look to build friendship and support each other in life. To me these groups are of high importance:

A chance to have fun together
An opportunity in the busyness of life to refocus on God in worship
A time to be honest and seek help
A team to gel & to build genuine community
A place to learn and be sharpened

Whatever they are renamed in the future - I know that I have benefited so much from them for years and just want to declare - I am in!

Are you involved in such a group? If not sign up today!

World Vision

What a great name for an organisation!
What a great strap line: 'For Children. For change. For Good.'

As a family we have loved being involved in learning about and supporting a child called Veronica in Kenya.

The letters and photos are so informative and helpful. The opportunity for our family to stand alongside another across the world is wonderful.

I would encourage you to check out the World Vision web site and don't just be a spectator - sign up and get involved!

How am I supposed to work.....?

Whilst I am sat at home trying to work today the house is full of the smell of a Christmas Cake cooking:)

I love Christmas cake!

Usually I like to start mine on 1st December and have a slice most days with a lovely cuppa.

The aroma gets me day dreaming - logs on the fire, tree decorated in the window, presents wrapped and ready to give, mulled wine and noisy games with neighbours and friends.....

What stops you working?

Walk Across the Room

Bill Hybels is an incredible leader in so many ways - I am booked in for the GLS in South West London next weekend!

I have had the privilege to attend Willow Creek Church and see the large campus.
I have listened to many many talks over the years.
I have gleaned so much wisdom from the var
ious conferences
I have been inspired and compelled by his wonderful story telling ability. (Often reduced to tears)

I am so excited that as a Church Redeemer is going to be working over the next 4 weeks through Bill's Book - 'Just Walk Across the Room'.

Even though he has been in the ministry for 38 years, built a large church and develops leaders around the world - Mr Hybels still has so many stories where he shares the love of God to folk who as yet have not responded with faith.

That provokes me

I trust that will fire us up as a church!

Personal Statement

I realise that I went to university along time ago...... I only needed 2 E's to access a 4 year BEd honours course and not only were there no fees - they paid me to go!

My son Josh is trying to compete his UCAS application now - so the school can add their references etc.

So much work seems to go into the personal statement & the 4000 characters you are allowed. Not only  do our teenagers have to attain the academic standards to get into the University of their choice - they must have the ability to sell themselves.

We live in a society where others want to quickly form an opinion of us.
Is it false humility - I am not sure I could complete a tweet of my achievements...... and I am twice his age.

Are you confident in your strengths or do you blush when others offer you praise?

Why are we waiting?

On Monday this week I had arranged for Homebase to deliver some stones to use for a path beside my house. Knowing that I would have to wait in all day I also arranged for a parcel to be re-delievered that I had missed the previous week.

Knowing that I would have to move 850Kg of pebbles by hand I was hoping that the lorry would arrive early in the day. As time ticked by I decided to do a few jobs whilst waiting.....couple of trips to the tip, tidied the garden, sorted the post, cleaned the whole house..... still waiting for the delivery!

Just after 4pm I get a phone call to say that the assignment had been put onto a wrong lorry. Instead of a 7-ton lorry the item was on the back of an 18-ton truck and there was no way that it was going to get down my road.

Whilst I am on the phone trying to settle the issue I hear the front door bell ring as a courier has a second attempt to deliver my parcel. My kids all shout at each other - 'I'm busy you get it'..... which meant no-one answered the door:(

Let's just say as a completer-finisher it was not a great end to the day.

What frustrates you and how do you react?

Stand Out Conference

It has been my immense privilege this week to attend the latest Father Heart: Practising the Presence of God Conference hosted by Simon Holley at the Kings Arms Church in Bedford. A superb venue - modern spacious and easy to access.

The 7 sessions between Thursday night and Saturday night were brilliant. The meetings were well lead. clutter free and the focus was wonderful worship, dynamic teaching and powerful ministry.

The speakers were honest and engaging.....seriously I am not on commission.... but if you want to invest in yourself and encounter God then I would encourage you to book in next year!

Down the tube....

We launched Redeemer at the end of January this year and are now keen to let as many people as possible know where we meet - 10am @ Ealing Town Hall if you are interested!

As a church we have hand delivered 60,000 leaflets around the area and also paid for an advert on the back of the Ealing Borough Magazine.

With our push to connect with people in the community, this week sees the display of our posters at some of the local tube stations....Acton Town, Hangar lane, North Acton, South Ealing, Northolt, Perivale, Southall.....

Have you spotted one of the posters?

Any ideas on other forms of advertising we should try?
